Avalanche Alumni Mentorship Days

AIARE Level 1 – Zoom
Begin your avalanche education right with our AIARE Level 1 program. This hybrid online/in-person course is as good as it gets and meets the highest standards in avalanche education to provide backcountry travelers with an introduction to avalanche hazard management. We pair two evening Zoom sessions (we promise they're engaging!) with two full days in the field to cover the full curriculum without a full classroom day. The AIARE Level 1 course provides students with tools for basic tour planning and travel techniques, decision making in the field, and avalanche rescue techniques.
Scheduled Program Cost - $525

Here’s What To Expect

Itinerary

Days 1-2 Classroom. There will be Zoom sessions on two consecutive evenings the week leading up to your field sessions. Both of these three-hour sessions will take place from 6pm-9pm and absolutely rock your socks off.

Day 3 Field day. We’ll spend a full day in the field covering snowpack observation and rescue skills. By the end of the day, students will understand how to practice single burial avalanche rescue, have experience with identifying layers and interfaces in the mountain snowpack, and gain exposure to snow pit best practices.

Day 4 Field day. Our second field day will focus on moving with the group, terrain recognition, and communication.

We will implement a tour plan and practice our group management during up and downhill travel. The day will conclude with a debrief and feedback to help students keep learning beyond the course close.

As with all our avalanche courses, once you take the AIARE Level 1 Course with us, you qualify for our Avalanche Mentorship Tours! These are regular, affordable tour days throughout the season led by avalanche professionals that provide you the opportunity to gain mentorship and connect with like minded peers.

Trip Reviews
“I have skied with all of the guides at CMA and have had great experiences. They are passionate about their craft, and it shows in the experiences they provide. They know where to find the best skiing and have extensive knowledge of the local terrain.”

They do the essentials really well: they’re professional, knowledgeable and competent, great teachers, and always keep an eye on safety as every guide service must. What sets them apart for me is that they do all that AND make it FUN. Some of the best times I’ve ever had in the mountains are with this crew. I highly recommend them!”

I hired this guide crew for technical education and then returned for their recreational guiding services. I’ll continue to lean on Cascade Mountain Ascents to bring me further into the backcountry and advance my technical skills in the mountains.”

Zack and Cascade Mountain Ascents is the best choice for your adventure no matter your skill level. From beginner to seasoned pro, Zack has you covered. His knowledge and skills of all-terrain and mountain situations had us feeling safe and confident all the way.”
